Privacy policy

Next Light forecasts the light in your photographs. Doing that takes a small, specific set of data: a photo, its time and place, and a way to reach you. This page says exactly what we collect, why, who processes it, how long it is kept, and how to get rid of it.
The short version
- No advertising, no tracking cookies, no selling or renting your data, ever.
- Your photo's full-resolution original is deleted from our servers within 24 hours of import.
- Location is used to fetch weather for your spots, and for nothing else.
- You can delete your account, and everything with it, from inside the app.
What we collect, and why
Everything below is tied to your account. There is no anonymous mode, because the whole product is a watch kept on your behalf.
Your email address
Collected when you create an account, either by entering your email to receive a sign-in code or through Sign in with Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real one, and that is fine with us.
Why: It is how you sign in, and it is where alerts and daily briefings are sent. We also use it to answer you when you write to us.
Your photos
When you import a photo, the app uploads the image together with the moment it was taken and, when the photo carries one, the place it was taken. The full-resolution original is deleted from our servers within 24 hours of import. A smaller display copy and the reconstructed weather conditions are kept, because they are what the app is built on.
Why: The photo is the query. Its time and place are what let us reconstruct the sky it was made under.
Precise location
Three sources: the location embedded in a photo you import, the spots you save in the app, and your phone’s live location if you use field capture to record conditions where you stand. Location is never collected in the background.
Why: Forecasts are about a place. Without coordinates there is nothing to watch.
A push notification token
A device token issued by Apple that lets alerts reach your phone.
Why: It is the only way to send you a push notification. It identifies your device to Apple, not your movements to us.
Your feedback
The ratings you give after a light window passes, and any miss reports you file.
Why: Feedback adjusts your own fingerprints by bounded, written rules. It is not used to train any model.
What we deliberately don't collect
The app contains no advertising or analytics code. We do not track you across other apps or websites, read your contacts, or collect your location in the background. We never analyze your photos with computer vision or use your data to train machine learning models. What the app does with your data is written down as rules a person can read.
This website counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics so we can see which pages are read and which sites send people here. It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and does not identify who you are.
Who processes it
We run Next Light on a small set of infrastructure providers. Each one processes data only to provide its service to us. Your data is stored in the United States.
- Supabase
- Runs our sign-in system and our database. Your account and app data live here.
- Fly.io
- Runs our servers, in the United States.
- Cloudflare
- Stores photo display copies, hosts this website, and counts its visits without cookies.
- Open-Meteo
- The weather service. It receives coordinates and times so we can fetch forecasts and archive weather. It never receives your name, email, or photos.
- Resend
- Delivers our email, such as alerts and briefings.
- Expo and Apple
- Deliver push notifications to your device.
How long we keep it
- Photo originals: deleted within 24 hours of import. You can also delete them immediately from Settings.
- Display copies of your photos and your fingerprints: kept while your account exists.
- Alert text and forecast windows that never led to an alert or a rating: cleaned up after about 90 days.
- Backups: taken weekly to protect against data loss and rotated automatically, so old copies are deleted after roughly two months.
Your choices and your rights
Delete your Next Light account
In the app, open Settings and choose to delete your account. Deletion takes effect after a 30-day grace period, and then everything is permanently removed: your photos, fingerprints, feedback, and your sign-in record itself.
No longer have the app? Email support@nextlight.app from the address on the account and we will start the same deletion for you.
Delete photo originals now
Settings also has a button that removes every full-resolution original from our servers immediately, without waiting for the 24-hour sweep.
Quiet things down
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Push notifications can be turned off in your phone's notification settings at any time.
Legal rights
Depending on where you live, the law may give you rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Write to us at support@nextlight.app and we will honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live.
Children
Next Light is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we handle it changes, this page changes with it and the effective date above moves. Meaningful changes will also be announced in the app or by email.
